Highs and Lows of 2008

Highs and Lows of 2008

2008 has been an eventful year, with both bitter and sweet memories. The year would be remembered as much for the recession as for the Mumbai attacks. Here's a sneak peek at what the year meant for ISMU.

1) Srijan- This was the first major event of the year. Though there weren't too many high points in S-2K8, it certainly had many firsts. For the first time, there was a Salsa workshop, junk- robotics and forums on the site. Let's see what S-2K9 has to offer.

2) ISS- After a delayed elections and some melodrama, the new student’s body was formed. Many societies got a new lease of life, noteworthy among them being Cyber Society (which practically rose from the ashes). Music Society and Chyanika Sangh also did their bit. Others remained their usual dormant selves.

3) IIT-ISM – With new IITs opening up, there was a fresh demand from students to rename our college. Blogs were created, posters pasted and finally a survey among the students. But soon reality dawned and it died a silent death.

4) Voluntary Societies- From two coloured pages in S-2K8 to its own website, MD achieved new milestones. ICX also came into origin, providing email id under ismu.ac.in domain. Kartavaya opened another centre in Dhanbad and continued with its expansion plans in other cities.

5) Placement- If the year began on a high note(riding on 2K8 batch's placement), recession meant TPO had to toil harder this time. The year also saw the Mittals coming and offering the highest salary package. The number of students going on foreign interns also saw a dramatic increase.

6) Construction- ISMU became a much friendlier place for the physically challenged, with slopes along with stairs at various places. The year also saw another floor being added to the Library and work finally began for the Amber Hostel.

7) Events- If Athletica had participants from various colleges congregating here, Oorja repeated the story with rock bands instead of athletes. Confusion pertaining to academic calendar finally meant no Mechathlon-2K8.

8) The Main Canteen caught fire, exposing the fact that the college is very ill equipped to deal with such mishaps. The follow up is that Fire Extinguishers still haven’t been installed.
