An institute's dishonour - Who is responsible?
"The pen is mightier than the sword." The print media has time and again proved this adage to be true. It is the most powerful means to express one's opinion. Often, if we feel that something about the prevailing system isn't appreciable, we resort to the power of print media. One very grim cesspit which exists here is the students involving the media, as if it were the only viable option to solve a dispute.
Over the past few years there have been a host of events which have made headlines in the dailies. Out of habit, the reports exaggerated the imbroglios. With a lot of print media coverage the issues are often blown out of proportions, bringing disrepute to our university. The morning after a hard night’s mishap brings no respite but a further apprehension as to how the facts might be fabricated to our disadvantage due to a bunch of imprudent and immature students who consider the TRP hunters as their saviour.
Apart from bringing a bad name to the institute, this irresponsible divulging of the inside information by a few further adds fuel to fire. It’s really agonizing to see that just for the sake of satisfying their personal interests, these students fail to think of the dishonour they bring upon their "friends", themselves as well as that of the institute.
The moguls of the blooming media industry, blinded by the glitter of the power and influence they command do not fail to make the best use of such situations, which may even include presenting incorrect facts, digging out skeletons from the graves or even failing to give the administration’s stand, leading to large scale bitterness among students.
The big question is why do we, like kids lost and crying, always run to the media, when the administration is adequate enough to handle it by itself without the outside world being involved. Is involving the media an absolute necessity? It’s high time that we realize we are one big family; where no one should be discriminating against the other on any grounds. Each one of us may have problems with others but all of these problems can be sorted out within the walls of this prestigious institute. Involving the outside world so that we become objects of ridicule is not the right way to go about it. Only our responsible and sensible actions beyond selfish deeds can help to maintain the integrity and sanctity of this institution and its students.
