Are we really patriots?
In an effort to create awareness on the issues of terrorism and the role of the youth to counter it, ’Let’s Talk’ was organized under the banner of the Photographic Society. An expert panel comprising of professors elaborated on issues of national security, failure of intelligence, corruption in politics, role of exercising our voting rights and the like. The topics were open for discussion with the small audience that was present, of which a majority unwilling, sat passive. Only a handful seemed mentally present and involved. The monologues or dialogues were followed by the 'much awaited event'-the candle march to Randhir Verma Chowk. It was heartening to see that a lot more students turned up for the march. Although the initial flashing of cameras by the media as well as by the students and stopping for cigarettes half way by a few was frustrating and could certainly have been avoided, the march on the whole was successful. A few locals also joined in to light candles around the statue at the Randhir Verma Chowk and observe silence. In spite of the lack of seriousness in most of us for such an important issue, the initiative taken to organize such an event is definitely worthy of appreciation.
We hope that the initiative will not stop here and will be followed by many such discussions in the future that may stir our souls and hearts and inspire us in taking part in the growth of our country socially, technically and politically.
