Blogging

"What are your hobbies?"
Every ISMite would have answered this question countless times and often people do not actually have a hobby but make up something on the spot. I was introduced to the world of blogging not too long ago and is one of the most easily implementable hobbies by a college student. It is absolutely free of expenses and isn’t time consuming. Thus, you do not need to stay up with a 500 page book thereby testing your motivation and the urge to finish it. Or, it isn’t like philately or coin collection which requires the skills or patience of a connoisseur. All you need is the capacity to sit before a computer, meagre internet bandwidth and some thoughts to express: qualities abundant in all of us. What is most important is to understand the power of blogging and who can easily adapt to this hobby and why are people still hesitant to take up this fascinating hobby.

Who should blog?
I feel that people who are not much into group or public speaking must take advantage of this hobby. All those who are either hesitant or lack the opportunity to address the public should take up blogging in order to make their thoughts known to the world or at least use it as a shout-box to make yourself heard.
Few hesitations when asked to take up blogging as a hobby:

I do not have the time for this. My schedule is too busy.

Well, actually you do not need to give much time to this hobby and that is the best part. Most of us have turned into nocturnal creatures while at college. So squeeze out some from those counter-strike playing sessions to pen down your thoughts, desires and experiences. What is more encouraging is that you do not need to update your blog regularly. Even one article per month is considered ‘regular’ in the blogging world.

I do not have the words or the prerequisite writing skills in English.

Good English or even English for that matter is not a prerequisite in writing blogs. Online transliterators allow you to post articles in Indian languages. As far as vocabulary is concerned, no one is ever going to evaluate your articles. So have fun in proclaiming your thoughts the way it suits best.

Writing is not a problem for me. However, writing articles that would entertain or provoke some thoughts in the reader is a problem.
Let me enlighten you by saying that blogging is a no-holds-barred hobby. There are no rules, no limits and no boundaries to navigate your thoughts. Talk about your friends, about the latest movie you watched or any crazy experience you wish to share. If you are a geek or possess interest in non technical fields such as finance, politics or art then begin blogging to make it known to the world as well as interact with other like-minded fellow bloggers.

Other attractions of blogging:
* Read other blogs to take in food for thought. You come across different perspectives from people around the world.
* Get appreciated through comments on your articles. Comments also act as discussion forums to talk about the ideas that you communicate through your blog.
* Make new friends. Fellow bloggers can be great online friends and believe me, you get to make new acquaintances by just going through and commenting on various blogs.“College gives you food for thought.” Make the most of it by giving it an everlasting impression through this fascinating hobby.

An Avid Blogger.
