Okay, for those who don't want to download, here goes the article-----
This article has been mailed to Anshul Jain Sir and I am still waiting a reply.
Hi sir
Let me explain it first what this letter is not about.
This letter is neither against Myshaurya nor against you. I have sincerely appreciated your efforts as organiser of Kartavya and though you do not about me, I know much about you and also I appreciate you. I love my country, if not more than you then at least not less than you and I respect all those who want to serve for the betterment of the country.
There are some points I would like you to discuss and think about before you sincerely start working for Myshaurya and politics:-
1.There are reasons for me to believe that this Myshaurya or political activities starting at ISM(or more correctly working on the enthusiasm of ISMites) will attract big and dirty political parties towards ISM.I have observed some big technical universities getting destroyed only because of over political activities of students. Take the case of Shivpur University, West Bengal where 40% classes are not being held due to strikes, group-fights and power-displays or take the case of Delhi University where not less than one-fourth of students consider college a tool to enter into the politics. And please do not think that ISM administration will prevent interference of political parties and this will help. These political giants have their ways, and though a college in my state had banned the same, now the college student body is dominated by two parties ABVP & AJSU, and it is open secret that they get support from BJP and Congress, and still college is not able to restrict them because support from these political giants is indirect.
A college like Shivpur does not matter to country so much as ISM. It has been the core of all mining activities, and if it’s academic atmosphere deteriorate, it will be a huge loss. Some times in the course of right reasons, knowingly or unknowingly, in the excess excitement we start marring the cause. You please make sure that these things do not happen to our college.
2.I have sincerely gone through the website and the documentary issued to us. I do not understand certain things. The documentary is full of words like “sacrifice your family, fight , Die for your people”. Fight against whom? Why a need to sacrifice? As far I understand, a government is a big responsibility, which can be fulfilled only by calm people. You must understand that one needs dynamic and good ideas rather than fighting skills and political posts for the betterment of the society. And also that most of the time people themselves are the biggest obstacle in development and progress is something which cannot be forced. Refer to the case of Nandigram Violence. The left front was basically correct in its intention to create a SEZ for the rapid growth of infrastructure of Purba Medinipur, and in the over excitement of this development, they decided to sacrifice everything which comes against this, which finally resulted in the massacre of more than hundred poor villagers. No one would accept progress at this cost.
Also in the sentence “We will not only sacrifice our families but also fight against the injustice, corruption and illiteracy in pursuit of a developed nation” (--- documentary supplied to us), it appears that sacrificing family is more significant than fighting against injustice and other wrong things.
3.I have also gone through your article-“The four points of dignity”. The first point is perfect. We must feel ashamed of the suicides of those hundreds of farmers. But the second point seems meaningless. Who are those 260 millions? Do you mean to say the grandsons of those who fought during independence period.
Ohh..got the point. It is about the people below poverty line. But how can you say that “These are the people whose grandparents were fighting for this nation 60 years ago while ours at home earning the money”. The condition of the poor of today has no relation with their ancestors taking part in freedom fight. In fact govt has taken good care of all those families who have participated in freedom struggle. Also granting them privilege is much like insulting the motive and ethics of those freedom fighters. They were obviously not self-driven.
4.Now third point. It says that “sacrifice your life to remove poverty so that people can remember you for thousand years”. First of all, there is hardly any need to sacrifice life for the course of removing poverty. You only need dynamic ideas and an organisation to get that implemented.
Next why this brings element of fame in the picture. Either it was put unintentionally or you thought that it will attract fame-glory loving people and there will be at least some people to work on this idea. If it is unintentional, then it is all right. But if it is the later one-I would say- Do not adopt wrong means even for right goals.
5.The fourth point-you said the only way to remove all problems is to join politics. It is nothing but the exaggeration of the fact. One doesn’t need to be political power to do good to society. Many of the IAS officers are doing great jobs. An IAS officer(1992 batch, needless to mention the name) of Sonpur District has helped people create a permanent shelter for a flood-victim-village in Mungher District. An SP in Gumla District managed more than 100 unemployed peoples to get employed. And not only IAS rank officers, many of the journalists, bloggers, private organisations and NGOs are doing fantastic jobs. Yes, through politics you can bring a major change, and this may be the right most platform for you to work, but for this you should not insult the efforts of those really great people who work without any greed of glory or political power.
And what do you mean by ‘make your hands dirty’. You cannot bring good change by adopting wrong ways. Of course I want progress of country, but a life of innocent person is more important to me. You said you will create a cell in your party which will deal with assassinations; and if any other party will interfere or try to disturb or murder your members, you will destroy that party and will kill tens of them. I do not accept a life for a life. And ten innocent lives for one innocent life is highly unacceptable and in fact madness. And also, then what is the difference between your effort and communist naxalites’. You must remember that all these naxalism and regionalism were started with very good intentions. It is just their violent and aggressive attitude which destroyed the picture.
You take a broader picture of this assassination scenario—at that time you will not have much power, at least not enough to compare with those big parties, and if you will assassinate tens of their party, they will destroy your party, your life and everything. After all they have post, fame, media and everything. That’s why I say—Do not adopt wrong means even for a good change.
It is rightly said that “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Hitler, Nepolean, Ravan, Kans were not bad people. It is only that they adopted few wrong means, few wrong ideologies and then power started corrupting them and when it came to absolute power, they got corrupted completely.
How will you prevent this in yourself and in your party? And who will check whether your ideologies are correct or whether you are diverting from the ideologies?
6.More about ideologies--- You said that ideologies will be decided after seven years when we all will be matured enough.
There is a basic problem with that. You better consider the case of framing of constitution in Pakistan. The constitution was laid there after they had decided their posts or better say had gathered much power. And the result is today’s Pakistan. Sometimes military overtake president post, sometimes president suspend court judges for no reason and sometimes president denies to resign for no obvious reason. Result is complete chaos.
This can happen with your party also. Today if you decide ideologies, you will obviously keep the power to throw a person out of party in your own control. And after seven there will be more such powerful persons craving for such power. An honest decision of policies, rules, powers and posts will not be possible at that time.
7.One more thing which I feel is that all this is very much unplanned. A govt is not just DOs & Don’ts. It is the policies which differentiate between governments. Have you ever thought which type of govt or political party you will create—whether it will be Monarchy, Dictatorship, Marxism, ‘socialism and democracy’ or ‘socialism and communism’ or capitalism? Will your govt be liberate or conservative? Leave the decisions aside, most of the people in the team don’t even understand these terms, benefits and losses of these type of governments. Do you believe that after learning these terms, all the members will have a common idea and common philosophy for the govt, because none of these views is absolutely good or bad, and in fact it depends on the thinking way of an individual. And still, to emphasise, all these approaches are completely different in their working. What will party do at that time?
You better frame the ideologies in the beginning and of course that will be subjected to a change whenever the need may be, after a common opinion of all members.
8.There are actually many more points to be discussed. But I don’t know whether you will consider this letter worth pondering or even reading! I put here my final point. This is actually my school-days experience. I belong to a Navodaya Vidyalaya, and if you know those schools, you must also be knowing that they are pretty good for talented rural students and also that these schools are little corrupt. My school was not an exception and though board results were high enough and teachers were good but classes were poorly held. This was the time when corruption went up, quality of food worsened and there was clear indications of corruption in the purchase of bed sheets, books and other commodities that were provided to us. I was in 11th, and was school captain, class monitor and Nilgiri House prefect. Then somehow it came to me and my batch mates that there should be an strike and that it is our duty to bring change and to remove corruption and all such things. Such things seemed impossible in such a disciplined school. But we were very energetic and very thoughtful people. We carried several meetings, brought all batches together and after a planning and hard work of 8 months we finally carried out an strike with full media coverage. Finally collector, some political leaders and other dignitaries came in our support. The principle was charged, FIRs were lodged, and we started expecting a brighter future for our juniors. Only thing that hurt me at that time was that in the course of strike, mob got excited and since power was with students they misused it and lodged complaints against good teachers only for their personal reasons. However, this was easily forgotten. After four months I said good-bye to school. It was only in last December, when I visited the school and saw the impact of that strike. Good teachers had taken a transfer for prestige sake. Since students had learnt the power of strike, they started misusing it. Group fight became a common and frequent phenomenon. The teaching faculties started fearing students. I heard even some cases of assaults of teachers. Discipline has come to zero level. Two years back there was hardly a boy in school which smoked, and now even ninth class boys smoke during assembly prayer in front of principle and other teachers. Needless to say that board exam figures have also declined, and three years back which was 94% now it is 78%. In last two years that school could not produce a single IITian, and this year 75% of the students have applied for transfer of school after tenth. Okay, now about my batch, I was smart enough to enter into ISM as fresher but none other could make it. Most of them are frustrated of trying and trying again but they couldn’t make up the loss of one year for strike and other silly things. This is naked and ugly truth. I repent of my decisions and find myself guilty for hundreds of destroyed careers.
I do not want to discourage you. Good work for society with good will is always welcome, but please consider broader picture as well.
