Reason for joining MD

Two reasons: curiosity and frustration - curiosity to know everything there is to know about the college and frustration that there was no way at that time. Besides, I wanted to do something for my college. When I was in first year, Gautam sir called me in canteen and very casually started discussing MD with me. I had no idea that he was in MD and I couldn't shut up for next hour or so, saying God-knows-what! In the end, very coolly he mentioned that he was in MD! Just as I started to run for my life, he told me that he was in fact interviewing me for MD and asked if I'd like to put my money where my mouth was. "Hell, yeah!" was my reply and I was given the task to choose my team.

MD for me

"Kisi zubaan main bhi, who lafz hee nahi, ki jinme MD hain kya, tumhe bata sakoon."

But since I have to, I really feel that MD is my adopted child. My family (read Team MD) and I have literally nurtured it. We didn't just watch it grow, we've grown with it as well. Whatever I am today, I owe it to MD. For all round skill development, nothing can even come close to MD. HR skills, PR skills, communication skills, financial skills, leadership skills, crisis management – just name any skill and you can develop it by working for MD, and in fact, we all have. Even though I am involved with the day-to-day activities in MD since two years, not a single day has passed when MD was discussed less than 10 times.

Role in MD

Ordering everyone around and generally making life miserable for them ;-). On a serious note, I was the co-editor-in-chief and coordinator of MD and my job was to ensure that everyone get their job done. Editing, writing articles, taking interviews, doing layout, hiring, firing..I was involved in practically all things MD.

Some Memories

I can practically write an entire book on it. Choosing a few is so darn difficult. Some of them are:

When final year sirs used to call and enquire about what is going on in their department, believing that being an MDian first and a II year student later, would know more than they…

When even after staying awake 3-4 nights in a row preparing an issue, we couldn't sleep waiting for the clock to strike 5:30 A.M. so that we could distribute MD personally in each and every room…and wouldn't sleep even then, impatiently waiting for people to read it and find out their verdict on the issue..

When everyone in the canteen would be reading and discussing MD, with smiles on their faces, and enjoying the issue…

When students from IITs and other colleges, after reading MD in Srijan, asked if the paper was published by some professional agency…

When guys literally begged to borrow a simple Rs. 20 black cap with nothing more that 'MD' embroidered at the front, hoping to get attention from girls in Srijan…

When the final year girls got "Technically 8" written on the back of their 'Class of 2008" t-shirts..

When we really, really wondered if we will be allowed to get our degrees…
